Using a mix of vellum, acrylic paint, color pencil, and charcoal, I’ve depicted a one-in-a-lifetime event that’s happening this year - the emergence of two different kinds of cicadas from their 13 and 17-year hibernation.

I hope it inspires the same sense of wonder in all of you!!

So happy to share with you my latest creation titled Moonflower inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s Jimsen Weed/White Flower No. 1, 1932.

“Moonflower focuses on the seemingly contradictory elements of the Jimson Weed flower to highlight the inherent dualities that exist harmoniously in the natural realm. The Jimson Weed, known for its beauty and famously captured by O’Keeffe, is in fact extremely poisonous in nature. Further, the flower, also known as the Moonflower, only blooms at night. Darkness is the key to the flower’s beauty. Moonflower visually echos these dualities through delicate and light drawings that are contrasted by a moon-like backdrop that symbolizes both the toxicity of the flower, as well as the setting that allows it to blossom.”

So happy to share with you my latest creation titled Moonflower inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s Jimsen Weed/White Flower No. 1, 1932.

“Moonflower focuses on the seemingly contradictory elements of the Jimson Weed flower to highlight the inherent dualities that exist harmoniously in the natural realm. The Jimson Weed, known for its beauty and famously captured by O’Keeffe, is in fact extremely poisonous in nature. Further, the flower, also known as the Moonflower, only blooms at night. Darkness is the key to the flower’s beauty. Moonflower visually echos these dualities through delicate and light drawings that are contrasted by a moon-like backdrop that symbolizes both the toxicity of the flower, as well as the setting that allows it to blossom.”
